Rotherham United Ladies
Rotherham united Ladies F.C were hosts to Barnsley in the women's county cup Sunday 18th November 2007 at Roundwood.
The weather was appalling and in the first half Barnsley adapted better to the conditions having a few shots on goal. Rotherham played the ball down the wings but never really troubled the Barnsley defence.
Half time came and the match was goalless. After the talk during the break, the Millers girls stepped up their game and within minutes were causing Barnsley problems.
Runs from Helen Lynsky and Claire Needham caused the Barnsley defence to retreat making way for Suzanne Davis and Kerry Longstone to shoot at the goal. A corner to Rotherham saw Lynsky loft the ball into the middle of the six yard box, Bridgette Booth out jumping the defence to head the ball into the Barnsley goal.
The Millers kept up the pressure causing some great saves from the Barnsley keeper. Further goals from Davis and Longstone saw Rotherham take a three nil lead.
Barnsley did get into the Rotherham box and a tackle by Booth was deemed to be a penalty for Barnsley. From the spot, Barnsley converted and with ten minutes to go it was Rotherham three Barnsley one.
A last minute goal from Davis sealed the win for Rotherham who are now through to the next round of the cup. Next Sunday Rotherham are at home to Sunderland in the Women's Premiership with a 2pm kick off at Roundwood. The development side are at home at Silverwood against Brunsmeer.
