It was an unchanged line up for the penultimate home game against a side who were battling desperately to avoid a quick return to the Conference.

But the Millers made a good start with an early attack that saw Tom Cahill find Ryan Taylor who low cross flashed in front of goal.

Then Graham Coughlan saw his header from a Peter Holmes free kick turned out for a corner and it was even better in the sixth minute when Cahill was brought down in the area by Griffiths and Mark Hudson stepped up to score from the spot.

Hudson then had a 30 yarder saved and a Taylor good effort from 25 yards was also saved before Dagenham won a free kick from which Rainford headed just over the bar.

Two visiting corners were cleared but the Millers were soon back on the attack and Holmes had a shot saved before Pablo Mills - up for a corner - saw his header saved.

A Taylor cross earned another flag kick and on 27 minutes it was nearly two up when a deep Holmes cross found Dale Tonge at the far post but his volley went just too high.

Then Holmes sliced a shot wide and a good move saw Danny Harrison fire over the bar before Dagenham got on the attack with two free kicks that Graham Coughlan headed away to safety.

On 41 minutes the Millers went two up when Marc Joseph's cross was cleared to the edge of the penalty area where the ball was met perfectly by Harrison who despatched a superb volley into the net.

Then a Holmes free kick was not far off providing another gaol and in the first minute of the second half a great ball from Taylor sent Cahill away but his shot was saved.

From that moment the visitors gradually gained the upper hand and they reduced the arrears on 52 minutes when from a corner the ball hit Strevens to bounce into the net as the defenders were caught flat footed.

Then Nurse brought a brilliant save from Andy Warrington before the Millers responded with a good break that saw Jamie Green's cross go out for a goal kick.

Holmes fired wide with another good chance and then Cahill had a shot saved while Taylor put an effort into the side netting.

All Dagenham's efforts to find an equaliser were thwarted and in the first minute of stoppage time it should have been three for United when Taylor set up a great chance for Cahill only for him to be denied by the keeper.

Then in the dying seconds Dagenham thought they had grabbed an equaliser but the goal was ruled out by the referee.
