Rotherham United 1

Chester City 1

After a lack lustre first half both teams improved considerably in the second period and a draw was probably a fair outcome although the Millers were denied the chance of a winner when the referee denied them what looked to be clear cut penalty at the very end of the game.

Danny Harrison returned to the starting line up instead of Steve Brogan but it was City who were first on to the attack with Yeo shooting wide in the very first minute.

The Millers replied with Derek Holmes heading wide from an Andy Todd cross before a fine 11th minute move ended with Chris O'Grady have a good shot saved.

On 19 minutes Graham Coughlan found O'Grady who picked out Peter Holmes and his 25 yarder went just wide.

City replied with a cross from Richie Partridge picking out Ellison whose shot was deflected for a corner. Coughlan them saw his header saved after going up for a corner but clear cut chances in the first half were at a premium although in the last minute Partridge hit an 18 yarder just wide.

The Millers started the second half with Steve brogan replacing Marc Joseph and they were soon on the attack with a Peter Holmes free kick being headed away.

He then had a 25 yards shot saved before a home corner was played back in but the keeper did well at O'Grady's feet.

Peter Holmes drove a 22 yarder just over the bar before the deadlock was broken on 57 minutes when O'Grady latched on to a through ball to score with a fine shot.

That spurred City in greater attacking and they almost levelled matters on 64 minutes when Andy Warrington pulled off a brilliant save to deny Yeo. The keeper was still on the ground when the ball came to Murphy and he looked a certain scorer only for Ian Sharps to make a miraculous goal line clearance at the expense of a corner.

However, Chester were not to be denied and it was all square on 72 minutes when Vaughan hit a shot against the post and Roberts followed up to score from the rebound.

O'Grady had a 20 yarder saved while it needed a fine save from Warrington to tip a shot from Ellison over the bar as play switched quickly from end to end.

O'Grady headed wide after good work from Marc Newsham and Dale Tonge and the Millers finished strongly as they battled for a winner forcing six corners in the last few minutes.

A Brogan free kick was turned out for one of those flag kicks that saw Coughlan's tipped over the bar then the Millers were denied a winner when a goalbound header was clearly handled by a defender but the referee waved play on instead of pointing to the penalty spot.
