Match Preview
Rotherham United will make a first ever league visit to Morecambe looking to bounce back from Monday's defeat at Rochdale.
Rotherham will be buoyed knowing that win over Morecambe would lift the Millers above the Shrimps in the league table. The Millers will be looking to end a run of seven away games without a win, with their last success away from home coming in January with the 1-0 win over Chester City.
Morecambe welcome the Millers to Christie Park with just one win from their last seven league games, which has dented their hopes of a gaining a play-off position. After starting the season in good form at home they have struggled of late with only one win in seven home matches, which came recently against Brentford. Morecambe's top scorer has come from midfield with Carl Baker finding the net 10 times in all competitions so far this campaign but he has not scored a league goal since the 3-2 home win over Peterborough on 29th December. In attack both Matthew Blinkhorn and Garry Thompson have scored eight goals each this season, with Thompson scoring two in his last three games.
The two teams have only ever met once before in the league and that came earlier in the season when the Millers won 3-1. This may be the Millers first visit to Christie Park in the league but they have played Morecambe in the FA Cup in the 1979/80 season, and on that occasion the match finished 1-1 with Richard Finney on the score sheet. Morecambe then sprung a surprise by winning the replay at Millmoor 2-0 to progress to the next round.
Morecambe currently have ex-Miller David Artell on their playing staff. The defender made 41 appearances for Rotherham in a five-year spell, scoring four goals.
