Season Review Part Three
March
New loan signing Joe Widdowson made his Rotherham debut against Accrington Stanley but the Millers played poorly and went down to a 1-0 home defeat, which left them in fifth position.
Pablo Mills scored his first goal of the campaign at Shrewsbury but United failed hold the advantage and were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw.
A 3-0 midweek defeat to Bury left the Millers clinging to a play-off place by just one point, when local rivals Chesterfield made the visit to Millmoor.
Peter Holmes opened the scoring with his first goal since September and then Joseph added a second as Rotherham held off a late Spireites surge to win 2-1.
Robins was extremely happy with his side as they ended run of four games without a win:
"We needed this massively as we have been on a shocking run.
"We were strong defensively and attacked with more purpose than we have done of late."
The week after the Chesterfield game Rotherham United were placed into administration to the loss of 10 points.
A 1-1 home draw against Bradford gained a point after an equaliser by O'Grady but heavy defeats against Rochdale and Morecambe meant the Millers finished March
with no chance of making the play-offs.
April
Matters on the pitch continued to get worse after a last minute winner for Brentford at Millmoor left Rotherham in the bottom half of the table.
United then travelled to Grimsby looking for their first away win since January and the Millers did not disappoint the loyal following in attendance as a well taken Ryan Taylor goal ensured a first win in four matches.
Manager Robins was delighted with the result and was especially pleased with the performance of his forwards:
"We got more from our strikers today, they held the ball up very well and in the second half Town changed things around and we had to respond as we had some pressure on us, but we looked comfortable."
The Millers made it back-to-back wins with a 2-1 home victory over Dagenham, and as the season reached its climax, there was good news off the field when it was announced that offers had been lodged for the club. Rotherham celebrated the good news with another win at Mansfield, with Yates getting on the score sheet for the third time this season.
May
The final match of the campaign saw prospective new owner Tony Stewart address the fans and the players rose to the occasion running out 1-0 winners over Barnet. Manager Mark Robins was in philosophical mood about the club's prospects for next season:
"We need to keep the squad together and as soon as things get resolved at the club the better, said a delighted Robins.
"We have to hope that next season we can reach the target that we set for this one but it remains to see what happens as there is going to be a challenge for us before we kick off."
